It's about 7 weeks since we started SBD, and it's been about 3 weeks since we've full-on fallen off the wagon - but we intend to get back on after 4th of July weekend. Good news:I'm still at about 220lbs, which means I'm still down 9 from when I started, and means I haven't actually gained any weight back since the MB Vacation... So hopefully I'll be in good position to start back. We're headed up to Dad's for the weekend, my aunt, uncle, sister and some of our cousins will be there to celebrate the weekend, and will be back at the end of the weekend. We returned the portable DVD player we bought prior to the MB trip because it choked badly on DVD's after about 2 hours of running, so we got a new one tonight. It's an RCA, so maybe it'll work better, but it doesn't play DIVX, so I'm having to get DVD copies of the movies we have on BluRay. Sims3 is addicting, if I haven't already said that... Oh yea - and I recant my Gripe about Seagate's RMA cost. it's actually 'free' to ship my HD back to them and have them replace it at a snail pace shipping (so >2 weeks with shipping both ways) - cost to me ~$10 for shipping to them. OR, you can pay the $15, ship to them first, and they'll 2-day ship it back - Cost ~$25 and it'll take about a week to get it back. OR you can pay them $20, and they'll ADVANCE ship a replacement via 2-day, AND send a prepaid return label - Cost $20 and I get the replacement in 2 days. It's kind of a no brainer. I got my advanced RMA today, and it only took about 4 hours for the array to rebuild into OK status. I'm pretty astounded, I figured it'd take a day to repair. Tags: geek, sbd, vacation

Back from Sioux Falls on Friday night -- my flight landed right before 10pm, so I didn't get home until nearly midnight. Trip was good, ate a lot of good food, and hung out with the people that we work with on a daily basis, but never see. It was productive, and well worth the trip to get accomplished in 3 days, what it would have taken several weeks of 1 hour conference calls to get done. Hilights of the week were: "slick track" go-karting on Tuesday morning (1 free ride per person, compliments of the boss) -- most of the department went. It's exactly what it sounds like, slick tires on a slick track - and the department have been doing this regularly for years, once or a few times a year - so they're gotten to be a ruthless crew. It was a ton of fun, I ended up taking two head-on collisions, and got pretty good at offensive driving/bumping. James spent the majority of the time with his car backwards on the track. He said the car wouldn't turn properly. The "Sioux Falls" is a pretty small waterfall, where they have a history lesson laser-show nightly. It was interesting, history of the discovery and founding of the town, lewis and clark, etc. Probably wouldn't do it again, but it was interesting once. Back at home: I gained 4 lbs in SF last week, mostly because I was weak at following my diet, when we were eating Italian, and Steak houses, and the like all the time. We've been working with Ryan on taking charge of his routines. Specifically, we've got his toothbrushing routine down. He goes into the bathroom, climbs his steps, turns on the light and gets the toothbrush (we put on the toothpaste, and do the real brushing) - he 'brushes', rinses, and puts away the brush, and then dries his hands and turns off the light. It's so neat to watch him learn stuff. While I was gone, he learned lots of new words, including "Beach", which he told me about on the phone one night. Cute! "Where are we going next week?" -- "to the Beach!". We actually got to MB today at about 5pm, after a slightly later start than we wanted (at 9am), but we still did ok for time. The portable DVD player helped, but he still didn't really have attention for more than one or one and a half movies. We got in just in time for dinner - so, of course, we went to Friendly's, and Ryan got his Cone Head Sunday. First the eyes and nose, then the cherry, then ice cream and the cone. He was a mess, but he loved it. We're all set, and ready for a fun week! Tags: sbd, vacation, work

Day 19 Weigh in: 215 I ordered a portable DVD player and a seat-back mounting bag this week, for the trip to MB to keep Ryan entertained. Both were about $120, and it plays DivX/Xvid off of USB and SD Cards. It conveniently accepts SDHC, so I plan on loading movies on an 8GB card (no toting/breaking my DVD collection - and since it doesn't play BluRay, I'd have to find a DVD of 'Cars' anyway), and that should keep Ryan happy. I'm pretty surprised about the quality -- it's just a cheap GPX brand device, but I figure I won't be too grumpy when Ryan pours juice in it, vs spending 3x as much on a really nice one (those don't do divx though). however, it IS pretty nice! The screen could be higher resolution, but it's by no stretch a BAD picture. Off Day yesterday - Woke up yesterday and got new tires on the Camry. Now it drives smooth, so I just need to get the brakes services so it stops smooth too. FINALLY got the lawn mowed - front and back. Still need to wead eat and pull other weeds from around the gardens, but at least the grass isn't 2' tall anymore in some places. Lack of a mower for over 2 weeks, and 2 weeks of rain are a bad combo. Katie's getting set to stay alone here while I'm in Sioux Falls this week, so since Amanda and Brian invited her to stay with them for the week, we had to find out how our dogs interacted. The general plan is that Katie wants to stay here, but if she gets too freaked out, she's going to go there, and take Ryan and Lexi -- the cats will be fine alone for a few days. So we went over to hang out / dinner with them last night. Bella, predictably, wanted to be the Alpha dog, and Lexi, predictably, just wanted to chill and play. Bella asserted her dominance, Lexi cowered and generally was just like "wtf, settle down, ok, I'm going over here now - just stop your bitching". After a while, they learned to coexist, but really not interact at all -- so, they'll be fine, but maybe not best friends. We decided that we'd been /generally/ good at our diets for the last 18 days, and decided to have an all-out cheat night. Taco Mac it was. Queso, Chips, Wings, Fries, and Sandwiches. Sat outside since its a) quieter than inside, and b) it was a beautiful day - if a bit windy and cool. Tags: family, geek, lawn, sbd

(and 9) Yesterday: Weigh in: 220. Breakfast was an omelet, lunch was leftover veggie chili from Tuesday night (yes, we made it again in a week), then snacks were the usual suspects, multiplied badly since we didn't really eat dinner thanks to the big lunch. Bad us. Today's weigh in: 219lbs - that's the 10lb mark. Breakfast - Turkey pepperoni omelet Snacks are the usual -- I probably need to seek some alternatives in this area, so I don't burn out. But there are so many sugar free puddings, and low-sugar yogurts. And depending on where you shop, 2% cheeses. Walmart actually has the variety that I'm finding that Krpoger and Publix lack on that one. Lunch: I think I have ham and cheese still at the office Was out of ham, but inconveniently near the ham at Pub lix is the sushi. Fortunately, they had some today that was friendly to my diet. No rice - just shrimp, avacado, cucumber, crab, and carrots. I know carrots aren't on the diet, so I just avoided them. Wrapped in lettuce. It was good, and pretty cheap. Tags: sbd

Yesterday was a really off kilter day (everyone in the house slept until 11am - that just doesn't happen with Ryan) - so, as a result, meals were way off schedule, and we only had 2 real meals... Omelets w/turkey sausage for breakfast, yogurt, nuts and pudding were snacks, and we had taco salad for dinner - Willy's style. Lean ground beef, cheese, beans, etc on lettuce with sugar free/fat free dressing. We'll definitely be making that again too. Today's weigh-in: 220 lbs Meal Plan: Breakfast (forgot to make egg biscuits yesterday) - 2 egg omlette and some turkey sausage Snacks: Yogurt, string cheese, pudding and nuts. Lunch: Baked ham and cheese Tags: sbd

Dinner last night was a super awesome veggie chili. I was a little skeptical, but it darn near was better than meat chili! Dinner was not entirely veggie though, we had a little turkey kielbasa cooked on the grill to go alongside. Can we have this every night? It was that good. For dessert we had (don't know what it really was) - but it was kinda like chocolate mousse (not as rich or sweet - made with unsweetened cocoa powder) with light whipped cream, toasted coconut and almonds. Pretty good for unsweetened everything. Day 4 Headaches are pretty much gone for me now (I think you're right, Rich) Weight: 222 lbs Breakfast - 2 Egg Muffins Snacks - I have a few choices today - yogurt, nuts, string cheese and pudding. Lunch - leftover Chili and Kielbasa - yay! I'm just going to start moving dinner to next day posts... Tags: sbd

Forgot to note yesterday. - Quick summary - Weigh in 227, meals were mostly the same except dinner which was chicken and veggies with 'red mean mash' - which is kinda like refried beans crossed with mashed potatoes... Then a vanilla ricotta coconut custard kinda thing for dessert. It sounds wierd, but it was really good! Katie and I both started out yesterday with a headache which we attribute to low blood sugar, it got better after I ate a bunch. Also realized that a) My Ham isn't 100% on the diet, so I have scrapped that now, and b) I'm eating too many nuts. Boo to both. Today: Weigh in - 225 Breakfast - 2 Omelet/quiche Muffins (roughly 3 eggs with cheese, ham, peppers and onions) - Katie found this recipe that you make in muffin tins and refrigerate and just heat up. They've got omelet ingredients, and taste like an omelet, but have a quiche kind of consistency. They were tasty. S1: Yogurt and a small serving of nuts and/or a string cheese Lunch: Salad with grilled chicken and approved ham with some veggies. S2: Jello pudding with whatever I have leftover from earlier snack, or possibly another string cheese. Dinner: tbd Dessert: tbd Not that I completely expect to keep up losing 2lbs a day, but if I did, I'd hit my target loss of 40 lbs in a month :) Tags: sbd

Today marks day 1 of the diet. Hopefully I'm following the rules for phase 1... Weigh in: 229 lbs -- looks like I've managed to shave off the 4 pounds I gained at my last doctor's visit for blood pressure. Breakfast: 3 Eggs for breakfast, I meant to eat 2, but cracked a third egg, so I ate it too. I probably should cut out a yolk or two tomorrow. Snack 1: 1 cup of almonds Lunch: Baked ham and 2% Pepper Jack Cheese Snack2: 1 cup of mixed nuts Dinner: ? Update: Meatloaf made with flax meal, green beans, and broccoli and cheese Tags: sbd
