So we're home now -- "vacation" is over, but I still don't have to go back to work until Tuesday.
Most of vacation was awesome, with a few speedbumps -- I'm ultimately glad we're home now, instead of still in the middle of Black Bike Week.

On an extremely depressing note:
This ultimately killed the whole mood on the way home - this is all over the national news too, so I'm sure you saw it:

We hadn't heard about any of this while we were in Myrtle Beach...   On the way home, I had to make a pit stop -- and just happened to stop in at this McDonalds in Covington....  
We were ordering food, and noticed this sign on a bucket at the register "Donations for the victims of Tuesday's accident at this location".   Us being ignorant, were making laughing and thinking that it must have been a stupid teenager that blew up a frier or something...   But Brian went ahead and asked...   I don't know that we really wanted to know....
While we were eating, there was a guy at a table near ours that started talking to us -- or at us -- or at whoever was nearby and might hear him...   As he recounted all the gristly details of how he was also there on Tuesday -- waiting to pick up his wife who worked there.   He was outside smoking, and all of a sudden a green honda came tearing into the parking lot, and smashed into these 5 people -- one pregnant lady (all the news I've read left this detail out sofar), her 2 year old daughter, and another lady with 2 kids.
Then, as he looked around smiling at the people that were yelling at him, he backed over them, and then over them forwards again, slamming into the side of the McDonalds.

I'll spare the rest of the absolutely gory details he gave us -- I'm glad I wasn't eating, is all I can say.

This poor guy -- he had to have been in his 40's - must have been in shock, or on some kind of mood modifying drug; he was quite spacy...   He also noted another detail that was missing from the news reports:

The man had 2 guns in his front seat -- they believe his intent was NOT to run over people, but to drive into the McDonalds and shoot the place up -- it was, after all, 1pm and the place was packed.   This man's wife was working inside, and he was just a pain of glass away, being outside...

How must that fuck with your mind?   I saw 5 people get hit by a car, one died and 2 more are kids going into ICU...   Or -- If they hadn't been there, would my wife and I have been shot to death by this guy?

Fortunately, since the restraunt was packed, there are about 50 firsthand eye-witnesses to the crime, so there isn't any expectation that the guy will get away with it...
